Halden Prison: rehabilitation over retribution

It is understood globally that dangerous and notorious criminals simply must be kept in isolation, i.e. in prisons, in order to safeguard communities from violence. But what purpose should a prison serve?

Should it give the offenders a taste of their own medicine? Or should it be a bleak and highly-controlled place and serve as a deterrent to other would-be-felons? In Halden Prison, deemed the most humane prison in the world, it is all about rehabilitation. Watch the video and be amazed at this new approach to incarceration.
